Thomas Miles Garrett (1830-1864) of Hertford County, NC, entered the University in 1848, was a member of the Philanthropic Society, and graduated in 1851. He became a lawyer and during the Civil War served as a colonel in the Confederate army. He was killed at Spotsylvania.
